I'm pretty sure any skin would be made with the intent to not cover that shiny beveled edge because it's so narrow and slants down from the normal bezel.

I tried to take a few pics to show the shine from it and just the corner of the reader to show the size of it. I didn't try to make straight perfect images on purpose (and as a result they're not perfect focus either), the shine wouldn't show then. These are more as you would be holding the reader. When the shine reflects off the side pieces is much more annoying to me than at the top or bottom like these pictures show (I just couldn't get the shine right to clearly show on the sides trying to place the reader and a camera just right for it). And this is just from incandescent ceiling lights in the center of the room, no flash at all.

Edit: Now I'm actually wondering if that piece could be removed if you open up the reader. The usual small gap for IR beams has never been a problem for me and I'd prefer the gap over the shine. Maybe someone who has opened it up to replace the SD card took a look at that part to know?
