When I was in primary school my teacher read us Susanna Of The Mounties (not sure of spelling). I remember enjoying it but I've never seen a copy.

Around the same time I read from the library (the nearest town library used to loan the school a load of books regularly) a book in which some children had a model of some kind of ship and it used to grow and take them off to adventures - in different time periods I think. This was probably my first introduction to fantasy. I have no idea of the title or the author.

We're talking late 50's in England here.
