Don't forget that the only reason the United Nations was able to participate in the war was because the Soviet Union was boycotting to protest the Republic of China, not the People's Republic of China, holding a permanent seat on the Security Council. The Soviet Union held veto power and could have prevented the UN from participating in the war.
