Hmnn. Well, given your requirements, I'd have to suggest either a Glo (non-HD model) or a Kobo Aura. The Kobo Touch has no lighting. The Glo HD has no SD card. The Aura H2O (my current reader) is at the high end of the price spectrum, not the mid-range.
Both the Glo and the Aura have a higher resolution screen then your Simple Touch, so you'll be improving there. As you're used to InfraRed touch screen on the Simple Touch, the Glo should be a good fit. Or, if you'd prefer to go with a capacitive touch screen, the Aura.
Some folks around here say the capacitive touch layer on the Aura degrades the look of text, but most folks say it's only noticeable if you compare two readers side by side. As your Simple Touch is considerably lower resolution, I doubt you'd notice if you decided to go with the Aura.
If you decided that you could spend $179 CDN plus taxes (not sure prices in Australia, sorry) I would highly recommend the H2O. Love it.
