Old Star Wars Novels

I'm currently re-reading Vector Prime, the first book in the New Jedi Order Series. I was wondering, as most Star Wars books are definitely no longer canon or have anything to do with the cinematic universe, whether there is even any point reading any of the expanded universe novels anymore? I'm enjoying Vector Prime, and have enjoyed other novels in the EU. I kind of feel that if you enjoy a book you should just read it, or should I not waste my time and read something else? What do you think?
(Apologies for the rubbish sentence structure earlier in my question).
