As GeoffR and ottdmk have said, the Kobo Glo shouldn't be loosing the current position. And GeoffR's suggestion is the only way I can think of for the page to be lost when sleeping if the book is opened. Or at least it is in the current firmware.

If you are closing the book and reopening it, there are a few scenarios:

- Sideloading as kepub without proper preparation. You can use the kepub reader simply by changing the extension. But, if you do, the reading position is not stored properly. Reopening a book will usually take you to the start of the current chapter.

- Corrupt internal database. The Kobo ereaders all use a database to store information about the books. Unfortunately, this can become corrupt. When that happens, the device shows weird behaviour and not reopening to the correct place is one of them. This is especially noticed if the device is powered off and on.

- A couple of firmware versions have had bugs with this. But, they were fixed a while ago, so updating to the latest firmware should fix this.
