That won't necessarily work for me as I have dropped books, causing the bookmark to fall out, dozens of times.

This does happen from time to time with the Kindle Keyboard. I think it happens much more to me than my wife Barbara because I use more features, including web and music. And I bring it everywhere, with buttons being randomly pressed as it bounces around.
