Ah -- no.
Peoples' problems with reading on tablets are manifold, including the fact that the battery life is much shorter, it can be very difficult to read outside/in bright light, and because some peoples' eyes are more sensitive. I assure you, of the third group, they will have experimented to an insane degree, trying to find a solution. Your dismissive belief that they just forgot to check the brightness level is... boggling.
People do not buy thousand-dollar experimental displays because you weren't there to tell them to check the brightness.
