@leerinj - have you tried installing the very latest version - 2.26. There was a fix in it, that on the surface addresses the problem you appear to be having.

The fact that calibre works on your daughter's computer and not in yours is largely 'irrelevant'. Outside of a corporate environment, no two 'desktop' computers are ever the same - or very rarely so. Even if they are the same manufacturer and model, the two computers might have different chip-sets that use different low level support software (video, network etc).

There have been a small number of inexplicable reports of the 64bit version of calibre suddenly not working - installing the 32bit version has often solved the problem. If you install the 32bit version it will use the existing configuration (e.g. settings, preferences etc) and libraries. The 32bit and 64 bit versions of calibre can coexist on the same computer.

The symptoms you have are not typical of 'interference' from anti-virus or other security software, but the only way to prove it is to temporarily disable the Norton Security. In the past one needed to download a special utility from Norton to do that, best thing is to ask Norton support. If you could try that, then it would at least eliminate that issue.

In summary

First try installing latest 64 bit version
If that doesn't fix it try installing 32bit version
If that doesn't fix it try disabling Norton
If that doesn't fix it try running in Windows Safe Mode with no network

Let us know what happens
