@mariaclaudia - you can do it in Manage Authors - right click an author in the tag browser (left sidebar) or an author name in the book details (right sidebar) and select Manage Authors

But it will do it for all authors - you can't select a subset. Before trying it I suggest you Backup your library see ==>> How do I backup calibre?

What many of us do is to add books into a "New Books" library, and do whatever is needed to get the basic metadata correct, for me that's author(s), title and publisher, for others its author(s), title, series and tags etc -- and of course, that includes the Author Sort and Title Sort columns.

Once we've done that we copy the books from the New Books library to our Main library - using the calibre Copy Books function.
