I don't think you can root an eink Kindle. Why would you want to? People root Fires to give them full Android, although if you want that, why buy a Fire in the first place? I don't know if any Active Content (games) is compatible with the new Basic (Touch). You can check on the product page. It will tell you which devices are compatible. Amazon seems to be getting away from supporting Active Content.
Jailbreaking allows you to install hacks, such as allowing custom screensavers.
If you want an eink Kindle for anything other than reading books, you are looking at the wrong device. PDFs don't work very well, either, because most are created for a larger page size than the Kindle screen. PDF is not an ebook format.
