So long as your library supports Nook, then go for it. The new Nook Glo is INCREDIBLY light! As you can see, I have many devices. While my Kindle Keyboard is my go-to device at home, I really love the Nook Glo when away from home.
Yes, all ereaders have their own foibles - they may or may not bother you. I find the paperwhite touch screen over sensitive. I bought one for my Mom when they first came out and she likes hers (she's 81).
Lots of people here like Kobo, but I have no personal experience with them except for buying ebooks. Many people have reported problems with their customer service. My only problem with the was not fixing an ebook (you bought one book and received something else-they took it off sale rather than fix it). Make sure your library can let you check out books on Kobo. My sister can at one library system and not at another, although I don't know why since they are epub.
On the other hand, if lighting is the only reason to buy, consider just getting a bright light and attaching it to your cover.
