I'm actually having the same problem as was originally stated. I've had absolutely no problems with 64 bit and suddenly, get a non responding white screen today.
Happily, I discovered, that in my case, I had downloaded the wrong version. I redownloaded the 64 bit and installed it and it works fine. However, it did not replace my icon or shortcut, so I have to delete and reset those.
