I will also add that the Kobo can run Koreader which as I understand it makes it easier to read pdfs. The Voyage does not allow the installation of Koreader, or any other modification. You are stuck with the Kindle software.

But the most flexible will always be some form of open Android device like an Onyx or a Boyue.
