Lemming -
iRex purposely made it that way - they apparently found problems when it was connecting to a PC while an active document was on screen, so they disabled the connection until you are back at a menu. I believe I read that in one of the update documents.

Today I tried the power/USB adapter that came with the iLiad (which I had been using only for charging) and when I plugged the USB cable into the adapter and the PC, everything worked perfectly.
Moral of the story: Use the provided power/USB adapter to connect the iLiad to the PC.

Sonist - not sure I get that - you were using the connector on the top of the unit to hook up to the PC?
The USB connection on top of the unit is for plugging in USB thumb/flash drives - then the iLiad can read documents that are on the mounted thumb drive. The USB connection on the "travel hub" is for connecting it up to a computer to make the iLiad appear to be a mounted hard drive to the computer.
