Are you sure the device is connecting to WLAN.
Bookeen devices have problems connecting with WLAN access points with special characters. It took me some hours to figure out, that mine had a space at the beginning and that was the reason why it couldn't connect to it. Special characters in the WLAN SSID (including space) are not working.

BTW: I would appreciate a downloadable actual ROM too.
