I use my Kobo Mini and my oldest Paperwhite for loaning books to friends and neighbors. I have no idea how many books they've read on them but I'd be surprised if both readers haven't been through 500 to 1000 books. Possibly twice that. Both are in like-new condition. I have them in a case when I loan them but probably each has been read by 30 or 40 people over the years, some of whom have dogs, and they've all held up very well.
Before I used them for loaning I'd probably read a couple hundred book on the Paperwhite and a few hundred short stories on the Kobo Mini.
These things have been heavily used and held up well. I have full confidence in the durability of both Kobos and Kindles.
