With LCD and reader apps, you can select non white backgrounds that are easy on the eyes, and can dim screen as needed. I read comfortably on kindle fire, with a sepia page colour . Some folks use white on black for night time reading.
You don't get any anti aliasing issues 300 pip retina display quality text!
