Hi everyone, I am pleased to announce that my my first release is up at the Kindle store:
http://www.amazon.com/Hours-Devotion...rs+of+devotion
There is a story behind this one. A few years ago, a new translation of this forgotten classic was released by a major publisher. It was over $18 on the Kindle store. I bit, in spite of the price, because I really wanted to read it and was dismayed to find it was riddled with typos and OCR issues.
I emailed Amazon. They did nothing (and indeed, the book remains for sale!) I emailed the author. She pretty much said sorry, nothing I can do about it, buy the paper instead. I was very dissatisfied with the responses.
I remember discussing it here with people---I felt (and still feel) that publishers who complain about Amazon lowering the value of books with their Kindle pricing lose some credibility when they charge $18 for products as poorly made as that one. A few people pointed me toward the older translation, in the public domain and freely available at the Internet Archive. The PDF was badly mangled in my conversion to ePub, but I have over the last little while been slowly editing it page by page.
I am happy with my result, and while I know this is a niche market and I don't expel to sell millions of copies, I did feel like since the work had been done anyway, I may as well put it out there. So here it is
Anyway, if anyone has any comments or tips or suggestions for me, I am always open. I have some ideas for some other stuff I want to put up there and I hope my next inspiration will be in a slightly more lucrative genre than this one
