I know, I know, I've had more than my fair share of ranty-ness lately, but...
- I have signed up for an independent review company (for independent verification of customer reviews of the services they, the customers, get from us, not some type of paid review scheme, to be clear), and the included support period to get it really going is running out (and the manuals/help just aren't that clear; they're obviously aimed at companies larger than mine, with an IT department, etc.), so...that clock is ticking...tick-tick-tick....
- The Google Mobile update is in, now, 11 days...(for those of you not webmastering, this means, if your site is not responsive to mobile devices and tablets, you lose page rank, search placement, etc. This = BAD). Eleven days.
- My still-in-progress website is not done, and my ENTIRE IT division (that's me, myself, and I) are all slaving on it, but if the Google update misses us, it will NOT be good, and.
- In the last 36 hours, my right-most monitor (of 3) has started being glitchy, just turning the hell off. Now, it "knows" it's turning off, because the content on that screen slides to one of the other screens. It seems like something is...overriding, or..?, the video-card memory, but...so far, nothing definitive, but it's happening more and more, since it started, and,
- Tonight, in the middle of the night, I walk into the home office, sit down to do something quick, and notice that the center monitor "looks funny" to me. To be clear, this is NOT the same monitor that's just shutting off. I look at it, and then I put my hand underneath it, to raise it up a bit (angle it upwards), as it seems just "not quite right" to me, and,
- The whole bloody thing suddenly KERPLUNKS down, toward the desk, like it's trying to get a really, really good look at the keyboard. Angled at about a 45-degree angle, TOWARD the desktop (top nearest me, bottom away from me).
These monitors are on quite good, sturdy, extremely adjustable arms, which I don't actually use very much, in terms of screwing with them. I tend to get monitors set, and then leave them, so it's certainly NOT overuse, or anything like that.
So...I'm really down to one monitor. To replace the arms, which come in paired sets, will take
at least 2 days, as they are special order. And as it's now the weekend, that means...Tuesday-Weds., at the earliest. The weirdo thing with the video card? Who knows when we'll get that figured out. And, of course, now I'm waiting for that third shoe (monitor) to drop, figuratively speaking.
I know that sounds like a first-world problem, but when you run a business like mine, and have 20-30 browser tabs up at any given moment (our CS system, our project management system, our accounting/quoting/invoicing system, social media crap, dropboxes, GoogleDrive, OneDrive, Amazon S-3), 4-5 Skype/webchat windows open, and you move a LOT of files around every day (we move thousands of files, literally, per month), suddenly going from 3 monitors to ONE (and couldn't it have left me the damn center? Oh, noooooooooooo, of course not) it's just...
BUGGER!!! BUGGER IT!!
Damn if I know how the hell I'm going to hit that Google deadline. Jesus wept. WHY do things happen like this? In pairs, or threes, or...? WHY???
