Personally, I think it's a ploy for people to use Kobo's bookstore more since microSDs mainly exist for sideloading books. It's only convenient to delete books if you can restore your bookmarks and reading progress without any hassle (or without using any 3rd party programs like Calibre). That's also why all my devices carry my entire library. I'm the type of person to read 10 books at a time and jump from novels to novels.
I got so excited when my friend told me Kobo has released a new model carrying the Glo prefix, but now, not so much.
I'm not that confident with my "engineering" skills. I'd rather have the slot than to tinker with the insides of a device.

I am going to go with the H2O I think, it sounds like it would be the choice for you? I tried a H2O case first to try for size, here I have my Glo inside it.
It's not much bigger.
