preventfreeze=true

I'm a bit concerned as I had specifically set preventfreeze=false via KSM and it has reset itself to true for no reason I can fathom.
At any rate, I don't know what values might be used to totally disable this check for Autoselect. I assume it is using power and resources for the timer at the very least, and I don't want it starting up nickel on its own, EVER.
I have reset preventfreeze to false, checked and it is still there right now. If it toggles itself again I'll report back on that.
There is also under the Configure options an entry for KoReader - but it is empty. What is that for?

I still haven't added the update #2. Preventfreeze = false was the default for my AuraHD, but it could be otherwise for the H2O.
I have mine set like this:
KsmAutoselectafter=10
ksmAutoselectoption=start_koreader
But if you didn't want to "Autoselect" at all you could change it to this:
#KsmAutoselectafter=20
#ksmAutoselectoption=start_nickel

Hmm... I think you may not understand how this works. First with an e-Ink display, no power is used (by the display) while an unchanging image is displayed. So, having any image up makes no difference, a solid black or white image or an intricate grayscale masterpiece - no power is used to maintain the image. No CPU cycles, either.
With most "sleep"/standby functions, the CPU is put into a very low power mode that is just waiting to be called back to work. For some devices, other similar steps are taken to safely suspend critical background processes. For Koreader the WiFi transceiver turned off, as well. Most of the suspend function is a very low level hardware function supplied by the chip manufacturer, the low level routines to activate the function are included in Kobo's firmware. Both Koreader and Nickel have routines that prepare the device before they call the hardware function.
Powering off is intended to be just that, there is a Poweroff menu option provided by KSM and also in Sergey's launcher, otherwise it is achieved by holding the "Power Switch" for 20sec or so. A quick flick of the power switch should be the hardware way to call the suspend function. (And how you return from it.) For your one non-sliding button H2O, it might be a quick press of the button, to suspend and hold down for 20sec. to poweroff.

As far as KSM's sleep feature - I don't want it to display ANYTHING. I want it to go into the least power-using state possible. I don't know if that is the dark screen or the light screen, but that is all that needs to be displayed. With perhaps text that says "sleeping", but no need to have any text at all when it is powered down. It should just be powered down in whichever state- dark or light screen - uses the least, preferably no, power.
How do I change the sleep screen display? And can KSM autopoweroff after a set time and display nothing at all, dark or light screen, whichever used less power?
I'll look at the 2 URLs you have posted. I did post a query on another thread that looked likely for KoReader, I'll check back over there. I hadn't asked about sleeping as I hadn't realized yet that KoReader was never ever sleeping yet.
Thanks for the help.

The "sleep" function was removed from KSM several versions ago. KSM's PowerOff function is still there and there are a number of posts in this thread that discuss how to make the html page it displays.
Koreader has a sleep/suspend function and you can have it display your own image of choice (current discussion is working on how to have it provide a randomly selected image from a number in a folder, a different one each time the sleep function is activated, by a power switch flick). Most of us probably just have it set to use the current book's cover image. There is a way to set the image to be used when there is no cover or when koreader doesn't find one or when you don't want the cover used.
Luck;
