It used to be in usersettings.txt, but with the new configuration features added in update 2, I am not sure. (I will have to get around to adding the update2.)

It is most handy to be able to "sleep" the device from the reading program, and both Koreader and Coolreader have sleep functions. KSM has a neat Poweroff, with the ability to have your own html page displayed while the device is shut down.
