I had the reversed problem; wifi got turned off while using a browser using my fire hdx 8.9.
Real problem was the "smartscreen" management which is really dumb management; after disabling smartscreen, no more wifi getting turned off while I was doing something; looked like the smartscreen is a timed operation for having wifi on only for specific times.
If the K4nt also has "smartscreen"; it might be what is overriding other settings or apps....
