There is a single reason why an eReader would be needed
it can store 1000 books, plenty to choose from when on holiday. I don't know the luggage checks for various airlines, but most common they limit it to 19-23 kg, which corresponds to roughly 60-80 books alone.
All others are "features" (and "bugs").
