In my opinion
Moby Dick is a great book embedded in about 80% unnecessary filler material. It contains some precious literary gems for those with the patience to struggle through the mire to find them. I found the seemingly endless parade of chapters devoted to descriptions of the various types of whales to be tedious in the extreme.
