It was much the same with me. I had read Pam Uphoff's Lawyers of Mars and enjoyed it and collected the freebies as they came out.

I only read them when sucked in by Pam posting later works in progress on her blog.

The early novels had insufficient proof reading so can be annoying ('loose' for 'lose') Her loyal readers have been invited to help via Google Docs and have improved things a good deal.
