I got a Laserdisc player (way back when

) because it was able to present Widescreen (>4:3) as the director intended.
IMHO Pan & Scan, a common tool used to
fit the main focus can ruin the effect the director was going for.
The best example: ET in the opening scene
The man with the keys:
In P&S, you see him walk between 2 trees
In Widescreen him walking between trees in a Dense forrest
With modern HiRes displays, you do not lose clarity with a smaller image height.
Black bars above/below are not evil
Baseballs are ROUND, not oval. No stretch-o-vision for me
