With high prices and the restriction to read only in their app, I can't see purchasing books at Oyster being very popular. It was probably important to them in order to claim feature parity with Scribd and Amazon.
I did notice, when looking at some metadata on their site, that they now have placeholders for locales of "CA" and "GB", in addition to the current "US". Perhaps they are gearing up to expand their service outside the US?
