I've read Butcher. Competent.
Hardly Hugo Worthy compared to the Andersons, Vinges or Nivens of the past.
Preferred the show, though.
Different strokes for different folks. I like Butcher a lot. He's a bit like Jerry Pournelle during the 80's in that he writes books that are hugely popular (multiple books on the NYT best seller list) yet don't win the awards.
