"Sneaky updates" are those which install without user intervention. When they don't carry a destructive payload, they're fine. The problem is that Amazon has lately (since August) been using these firmware updates to prevent jail-breaking and a bunch of other bad things.
It USED to be that you didn't need to jailbreak your device to change fonts. Then a firmware update took that away and you *had* to jailbreak to get that feature. Then a firmware update took away the ability to jailbreak, period.
What's worse, they've (apparently) made it impossible to revert to a prior firmware, once the newest firmware has been updated. THAT'S what is "sneaky"
