Marius,
You had me at "As someone who grew up reading, I’m left with a deep-seated curiosity about where this past-time, obsession—whatever it is to you—is going"!
As someone who would read the nutritional information on the side of a cereal box just to have something to read, I was a self-described skeptic when it came to ereaders. For me, I couldn't imagine not having the tangible feel of paper in my hands while reading. But then I got a Kindle Keyboard and have been hooked on ereading ever since! I've migrated to the Kobo Aura H2O, and don't think I will ever go back to a smaller screen reader. It's more than portable enough for my needs.
One distinct advantage of Kobo over Kindle (IMHO) that I didn't see mentioned in your blog post is that it doesn't have ads/"special offers" cluttering the home screen. If you compare the H2O to the Voyage (3G + WiFi, no special offers), the Voyage is actually $20 more than the H2O, and has less internal storage capacity (2GB v. 4GB).
Thanks for sharing what is by far the most objective and clearly articulated comparison of 2 outstanding devices! By the way - the post displayed beautifully on my iPad Air!
