LOVED the Dirk Gently books. Both my physical copies are literally falling apart.
The first one has so many wonderful ideas in it, and the second uses St Pancras station as Valhalla, and I'm sure JK Rowling nicked the street lamp idea from it.
But even for people who like HitchHikers I wouldn't classify them as must-reads. They're a little too quirky for that.
