I"m not on the three month trial either. I can use sendtokindle (I am not emailing a file, I am using the send to kindle button Amazon supplies for posts/stories). This goes to my kindle and is not stored on the cloud. I'm okay with that. I have not tried to store it on the cloud.
Of course, if anyone uses SendToKindle from a blog or to get a story, they would be well-advised to save their own copy in case it doesn't store to the cloud or the rules change again if that post/story might go away from the original source. But this is not really new. We all have to backup things we have bought or would like to keep. This sort of change just brings that point home.
Also some of the confusion about emailing/converting documents appears to be happening because it didn't work for some people first try yesterday. It does now appear the "email" send to kindle does still work and won't count as "cloud storage" that will incur a charge.
Meanwhile, I ran backups this morning. It's my regular weekly backup, but it just feels especially good to have a backup this morning.
