It [email from Amazon] said, " In order to upload new files you will need to pick one of the free 3-month trials."

I didn't pick one.

I tried sending some docs using "Send to Kindle." The docs arrived in my email inbox instantly, but in my Kindle, they are stuck on "queued." This is unusual. I have seen them queued before but not for this long (about 3 hours).

I don't see how this could be related to the Clouddrive change, but the coincidence makes one wonder.

 UPDATE:
The queuing problem is gone. Sending personal docs to my Kindle is working normally and I have not selected a free trial of the new paid options. Since the email said you cannot upload to your cloud storage until you select a free trial of a paid plan effective immediately, this seems to mean that Sending to Kindle is not affected by today's announcement.
Archiving of those documents is, of course, another matter.
Removing a small freemium service is common among bait and switch startups. It's very rare among the giant companies. For me, it's a major black eye for Amazon.
