I reread frequently when I was a younger. that's why I know all my favourite children's books almost by heart.
A good book is like an old friend to me, it gives me comfort, I know what to expect, but I still discover new aspects from time to time. And with the authors I've discovered as an adult I savour their language which makes rereading enjoyable even if I know the story well. But still, usually, I don't remember too much from previous readings unless I'm reading the book for the third, fourth or fifth time. Rereading gives me the chance to notice new and different things in the story, the language, the characters which I would miss if I only read a book once.
I haven't been rereading too much since I've started reading on an electronic device because my TBR pile will last me for years, if not decades. But every now and then I'm in the mood for something familiar, something that won't disappoint me. I've also started rereading my favourite authors' back catalogue chronologically, just to track their development.
