I haven't seen a silicone case for any of the current ereaders. Most people want something to protect the screen when not reading.
As to cutting the front off, the case Lynx-Lynx and I have would probably be OK. The back is a plastic shell that holds the device at all corners. There is a single piece of leather that is imbedded in the back and the font and is used as the hinge. That could be cut off without damaging the back.
