Not strictly necessary - but you should backup your library to another device, see ==>> How do I backup calibre?

If you use an incremental backup strategy then its not too onerous to do it regularly - eg daily. And make sure you know how to restore from backup should you lose your library.

If you want to backup to a cloud service like Dropbox you should read this ==>> I am getting errors with my calibre library on a networked drive/NAS?

The essence of that - is don't synch your library to something like Dropbox or OneDrive whilst calibre is running, and avoid using Google Drive.
