The plugin (well technically, anything built around the SmartyPants algorithm) has no trouble with multiple paragraph quotations. That situation's not actually all that tricky when it comes to auto-smartening (provided, of course, that your smartening algorithm isn't predicated upon matching up pairs of quotation marks).
