@taratears - nothing that I know of.

You could tag the books '!locked', and do a search for not tags:"=!locked" before you bulk metadata edit. Also you could create Locked and Not Locked virtual libraries.

Why !locked - I use - ! (bang), # (crunch), ^ (hat) and ~ (squiggle) - to indicate 'this is special' when naming things, like tags, files etc. Makes them sort into groups (when they're sorted )
