Change Author Sort to McLean, Alistair in Manage Authors and it should cascade though all the books with Author Alistair McLean
F2 on the cell will get you into edit mode.
Author Sort is stored data - calibre guesses the default value. But names are 'tricky' eg Violet Bonham Carter is Bonham Carter, Violet, not Carter, Violet Bonham which is the default, To 'fix' such anomalies I always edit it in Manage Authors.
