@theducks - yes I see this too, if the column is too narrow to display full values then after F2 to enter Edit mode, traversing the list with up/down arrow will behave as you suggest - show truncated values. However, if you click the Name:  Screenshot - 2015-03-15 , 08_25_06.jpg

Size:  557 Bytes you do get a list with full length values.

I get around the problem by having different View Manager views for Browsing and Editing. In the Editing view the fields I normally edit are arranged in the order that 'makes most sense', full width, and left most.

Added : I may have misunderstood what you want. I can't see what a tooltip has to do with the truncated values when you edit. Unless you're wanting the tooltip truncated to the column width - which I for one certainly wouldn't want
