A very interesting
comment appeared at Alf's last night. Someone calling themselves "Nobody you know" posted an url into which you plug in your B&N account email, password, and a random 16-byte hex number. It links to B&N and then gives you your encryption key. Curiosity got the better of me and I tried it. It worked. It gave me the same key which I found previously in Nookstudy (with the number 1 in front of it).
