A legitimate point is that linux (but not OSX) suffers a dearth of commercial application support. For that reason alone, a Windows or OSX system is not unwise to have.

It's the only reason I have to keep a Windows box running. I have one commercial program that I need (for a hobby, but it's still a "need" for me) that doesn't have a Linux equivalent.
