It was very sunny, today, and the high temp got to 50° (F).
The downside of having such a warm day so soon after a heavy snow is that the snow on the roof doesn't melt away gradually -- sheets of it slide down (very loud if you're in the house) and it falls in slabs up to about suitcase-size.
However, I was able to clear quite a bit of ice by sliding the steel garden spade under the ice sheet, prying it up, breaking it into chunks, and carrying it over to the backyard. My wife was able to bring her car down.
In a couple of weeks we should be six inches deep in mud.
