I loved the book too. It is refreshing to sometimes read something that different. Funny enough in the first book I was guessing the genders constantly but in the second book I didn't. Maybe it has something to do with the shift between the first and the second book (or my experience of it). I read it way before the hugos as did many people. It was kind of hyped and recommended by many bloggers (rightly so). I think it is a justified winner and I don't like the attitude of this puppies group. They do exactly what they pretend to oppose. Were "Ancillary Justice" is a very good book (with some themes this group seems to oppose) many books they nominated were just okay and seem to be chosen not for the merit of the book but for promoting their political goal. Not to say anything about the authors of the books and some of them are quite nice reads, but contrasting them with the winner, the shortcomings are obvious.
