Since nobody had any suggestions, I figured it out myself. It turns out that NOOK for PC needs a native wininet.dll. I'm using Wine 1.6.2.

You can get it by downloading and installing IE7. I don't think it matters, but I unchecked the "install updates" box.

Run winecfg, click Libraries and add an override for "wininet.dll (native, builtin)". I don't know if it matters, but I have my Windows version set to XP.

Download and install NOOK for PC. Run it, login and start downloading your books.
