Mobi-reader can lookup dictionary when reading. It's not hard to imagine how it work because reading and looking-up are done in the same app.

It seems (I am not quite sure) that StarDict and EBView also support dictionary lookup across apps. I wonder how does such mechanism work generally. What's needed in the side of reader app?

I ask the question because I want to study the possibility to enable dctionary lookup function in readers (ipdf, fbreadre...)
