Sorry for your loss, Peter.
+1 to Peter!

All of our kitties have been the result of the neighborhood feral mom cats knowing where the soft touch was and dropping their babies on our door step.

We recently lost (to old age) Baby Cat, who was so named because her mom abandoned her under our mailbox literally hours (maybe minutes) after birth. She still had her umbilical cord attached, and we had to tube feed her every two hours around the clock because she didn't know how to suckle yet.

We also had to teach her how to eliminate because mom cats have to do that for their babies for the first week or so.
