It definitely does not have GPS hardware so relies on the phone for location. However, you can have the directions shown on the watch which is great for cyling: the phone can remain in your bag or pocket, for instance, and the battery consumption of the watch face is significantly less than the consumption of any smartphone display!
Interesting. (ANd thanks to tubemonkey as well). I can see someone programming one of these for special circumstances, but also that for many it's like a remote monitor showing functions running elsewhere (backpack).
